The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mr. Mike Omeri has likened the role of musician to the work of missionaries spreading the good news for a just and progressive society.
This was contained in an address delivered by the Director General of the Agency, Mr. Mike Omeri while receiving members of the Abuja Resident Musicians Association (ABREMA) saying the Agency and the association shares a common role to inject right attitudes in Nigerians.
Omeri who underscored the role of music and its impact on the general populace, appealed to all musicians to see themselves as “missioners preaching the message of love and patriotism.”
“Help preach the message of love and patriotism. Now that Nigeria is experiencing security challenges, I implore you to sing message of peace, peace and peace,” Omeri said.
Omeri bemoaned the extent to which Nigerians have developed appetite for foreign music at the expense of local ones, saying that such attitude had contributed to adopting cultures that were alien to us as a people. He therefore called on musicians to take the message of “Do the Right Thing” to the people through their music.
Earlier, the visiting President (ABREMA), Fajilo Alele intimated NOA boss of his Association’s plan to do a theme song on the Agency’s charge “Do the Right Thing”, while commending Omeri on his achievements since inception of office, adding that the Agency’s inter-faith and peace initiative advocacy tours were testimony and inspiration to musicians.
The ABREMA/NOA, had in the past staged a concert in an effort to promote right attitude which was tagged “ABREMA FCT/NOA Peace and Awareness concert.
