The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri has called for a pan Nigerian alliance against all forms of terrorism in the country saying a cohesive disposition is required in the fight against violent expression of opinion in all the sectors.
He spoke today while receiving members of the National Institute for Islamic Culture and Research in his office. The team led by National Cordinator, Malam Abdulsalam Nuruddin was in NOA to give symbolic recognition of the Agency’s advocacy for peace and building interfaith dialogue.
Omeri said the fight against terrorism should go beyond the narrow meaning of violent insurgency saying that such attitudes have been displayed in the media, among business owners and political players.
“ What we are saying is that any manifestation of violent expression of your interest is an insurgency that we must reject. Every Nigerian, all men of good will are called upon to join in the campaign for just, orderly society. We require a grand alliance of interests to succeed in this fight” he said.
The DG warned those whose penchant is to politicize chaos, and violent outbreaks around the country to desist from such acts as the nation required the cooperation of everybody to find solution to the shedding of innocent blood around the country.
The NOA boss said that it was God’s plan to create Nigeria and its people with the diversity it has because “therein lies the greatness and the beauty of our nation” According to him, Nigerians should demonstrate a commitment to Do The Right Things always inorder to realize the greatness that has always been in us.
Earlier the National Cordinator of the Institute said the group focuses on the promotion of interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence among all the faiths in Nigeria. He commended the NOA for the introduction of the Do The Right Thing charge which he believe will help to drive the transformation agenda of the present government.
