The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri has challenged Nigerian youths to emulate the virtues of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal who he described as an icon of unity and peace in Nigeria.
He gave this admonition while speaking as the Chairman of the Youth Harvest Dinner of the Church of the Assumption, Asokoro, Abuja on Thursday where the Speaker was presented with the award of Icon of the Youths by the church. He noted that the Speaker had great respect for the youth and was contributing immensely towards the improvement of the youth using his position as the Speaker of the House.
Receiving the award, Speaker Tambuwal described the youth of the country as championing the cause of religious unity in the country, noting that by the gesture of the Youth Fellowship of the church towards him, they have demonstrated that Nigerians are determined to live together as brothers and sisters despite efforts by some to divide the country.
In an interactive session with the youths, the Speaker also commended Nigerian youth for taking greater interest in the way they are governed and assured them that the Federal Government is making all efforts to ensure that Nigeria always remains a united and progressive nation.
In a brief address, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan admonished Nigerians to see religious differences as mere diversities of angles towards achieving one strong, united nation rather than a reason for discord and disintegration.
Also present at the event were the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth Affairs, Comrade Jude Imagwe, the President, Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Dr. Simon Dolly, the President, Christian and Muslim Youth Organization, Mr. Yesuf Ibrahim and a host of other dignitaries.
