The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri has called on Nigerians to discountenance those who drum the beats of war in the various regions of the country, pointing out that only Nigerians can ensure that peace and justice reign in the country.
He made this call in a statement to Nigerians on the occasion of the 2013 International Peace Day. Mr. Omeri described people who fan the embers of violence and blood-letting in the country as enemies of the nation, noting that the security agencies are poised now more than ever to ensure such people are apprehended and brought to justice.
In his words, “As the world marks this year’s International Peace Day, Nigerians must contribute their own quota to entrenching world peace by turning their backs to all those who seek to divide us along ethnic, religious, political and other lines. Such people do not mean well for this nation and we must shame them and their evil predictions of bloodshed by reporting suspicious persons and activities immediately they are spotted. Only Nigerians can ensure ‘build a nation where peace and justice reign’, as stipulated in the second stanza of our National Anthem”.
The International Peace Day which is commemorated annually on the 21st September has “Education for Peace” as theme for this year’s celebration.
