SIERRA LEONIAN GOVT SEEKS NIGERIA’S SUPPORT TO ESTABLISH ORIENTATION AGENCY
President Goodluck Jonathan has given approval for Nigeria to give support to the government of Sierra Leone to establish an orientation agency with the same structure as the National Orientation Agency, NOA
The Director-General of the NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri said yesterday in Abuja that this followed a request by the government of Sierra leone saying the work of mobilizing a nation was necessary in the task of nation building.
He spoke when the executive committee of the African Democratic Party, ADC led by the National Chairman, Okey Nwosu paid him a visit seeking the immediate intervention of the NOA in the sensitization of political activists inorder to restore sanity and purpose to the current electioneering process going on in the country.
According to Omeri, the Agency’s political and civic education programme will ensure that leaders and followers understand the principles and codes of practice of politicking to enthrone a system that promote peace, progress and development.
He explained that the aim of Agency’s programme in the current democratic process is to create synergy among political parties to recognize each other as members of one country seeking change within the transformational process.
In his words: “The Agency is open to all Nigerians, all political parties to promote the core values of peace and unity, also promoting democracy as the true and best system of government in Nigeria. He said that the Agency was already preparing to explore all areas to bring all political parties together to educate them on NOA’s value re-orientation programme titled “Patriotism and Ethics First”. He also called on political parties and senior citizens of the country to use political language that binds us together as Nigerians especially during electioneering.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the Africa Democratic Congress ADC, Mr. Okey Nwosu said that the party appreciates the Agency’s position on nation building as a true conscience of any change in the transformation process.
Nwosu urged the Agency to quickly deploy its machinery to help in the understanding of the political process and create more unity in the land.
