U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs Condemns Bokoharam
The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria welcomes the passage by the U.S. Senate on February 24, 2015 and the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs on February 27, 2015, of two resolutions condemning the cowardly attacks by Boko Haram on the innocent citizens of northeastern Nigeria.
This landmark votes affirm the strong support for Nigeria from the elected representatives of the American people. It should also be seen as an emphatic endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan’s successful campaign to defeat Boko Haram and focus international attention on the terrorist threat to Nigeria and Africa.
House Resolution 53 reads, in part:
“… the House of Representatives expresses its strong support for the people of Nigeria … who have been terrorized, abducted, trafficked and murdered by the terrorist group Boko Haram; condemns Boko Haram for its violent attacks on civilian targets, including schools, mosques, churches, villages and markets in Nigeria; …. Supports efforts of United States assistance to the Government of Nigeria to combat Boko Haram and the search of those who have been abducted by Boko Haram…”
The Government of President Goodluck Jonathan appreciates the principled stand by Republican and Democratic members of Congress on the side of right and justice. We are honored to be your equal partners in our common endeavor to defeat the terrorist scourge we both face and to bring lasting peace and prosperity to our nation. Together, we will prevail.
