The Kano State Acting Director of the National Orientation Agency, Alhaji Muhammed Bashir Ali has charged society members to play their beats in ensuring the protection of the girl child. He gave this charge at a recently organized sensitization campaign at Garun Malam Local Government Area of the State.
He said the campaign which was tagged “Girl Child Security” became necessary due to the high rate of rape and girl child abuses among residents of Garun Malam and its environs. The campaign therefore brought relevant stakeholders together towards finding a permanent solution to the ugly trend.
In his address, the Acting Director called on parents and guardians to regulate the movements of their children and wards. He also charged youths to desist from drug abuse and other risky behaviours which could predispose them to crimes.
The Divisional Police Officer, Garun Malam, Barr. Daiyabil Ahmed commended the NOA for organizing the programme and for similar sensitization outreaches of the Agency in other areas of the State.
In his remarks, the District Head of Garum Malam, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Buhari charged other District and Ward Heads and religious leaders to carry on the campaign to their followers as everyone had a role to play in the security of the community in general and the girl child in particular.
The programme was well-atended and had contributions from chief imams, Hisbah leaders, youth leaders and LGA officers.
