Eminent traditional rulers from across the country will tomorrow be in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State at the instance of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to brainstorm on the security challenges confronting the nation and proffer solutions for peace.
The Director General of NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri who made this known in Abuja said the objective of the zonal peace forum in the south west of Nigeria was among other things, to integrate traditional institutions, which he said are the closest to the people, into the efforts at resolving the security issues in the country.
Mr. Omeri noted the pivotal role of traditional institutions in community galvanization and stressed that with or without constitutional roles, the importance of their contributions to national security and development cannot be over emphasized. He said that in line with the NOA’s commitment to restoring and upholding national values, the Agency would continue to highlight the significance of traditional institutions in the national life of Nigeria.
Among traditional rulers expected at the Ekiti parley include The Ooye of Okemesi-Ekiti and Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Obas, Oba Michael Gbadebo Adedeji and; The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyewo Adejugbe (Aladesanmi the 3rd). From outside the State will come the Aku Ukhe of Akiri, Nasarawa State, HRH Alhaji Suleman Yamfa and; The Unevworo of Ekpan Kingdom, Delta State, Col. Mike Lucky Torey (Rtd). Also expected is the Founder, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN).
